Hi folks it’s Stuart here.
I’ve been busy the past few weeks
on this article, I hope you enjoy reading it.
THE STATE OF SCOTTISH RUGBY
The reason why I am writing this article is because I am
wanting to find out when the actual game of rugby is going to begin again. Also,
what the different rules are going to be. On July 3rd Scottish Rugby announced the return to rugby
roadmap, which outlines different stages
that are necessary so that the game can return safely. The Scottish Rugby Union
is working alongside the scottish government guidelines for easing lockdown.
·
As we are now in phase 3 of lockdown this means Scottish
rugby has entered the 3rd stage of it’s return to rugby road
map. As of Monday 13th July,
training has resumed, however it is non-contact and in small groups.
·
As we enter phase 4 of easing lockdown, there
will be another 3 stages in Scottish Rugby and they are as follows:
-
Stage 4: larger group training, and the
modification of contact activities in August
-
Stage 5: team training & friendly matches,
facilities fully open in September
-
Stage 6: return to competitive rugby in October
I am interested to find out what the modification of the
game will mean, would this mean a change of rules? For example, Super rugby Aotearoa
started back up in June with some rule changes, such as having goal line drop
outs instead of 5 metre scrums and limits on scrum resets. Personally I agree
with the changes made to scrums because, I feel that there is so much contact amongst
the players. These changes seem to me to be simple to implement, and make the game
easier, safer and faster. I was also wondering if there will be changes to the
rules about tackles, to reduce contact between players. I’m confident that if Scottish
rugby follows the examples of both the New Zealand and Australian super leagues
they will make players safer whilst maintaining the spirit of rugby.
