Our Art Studio has been busy as always.

There is now an Edinburgh college art group on a Monday that everyone is enjoying and working hard at.

Portfolios are in progress.
We have just completed a folk art project and everyone designed his or her own bird to decorate a paper Mache plate. We also hope to paint some folk art canvases.

Good News Stories       Sylvia Mitchell and Iman Ahmed were the lucky winners of the card competition. Both have said that they feel very happy about this and are looking forward to their prizes of art supplies to take home, and seeing the finished  printed cards.

Craigmillar goes green

Tulips by Sylvia

Everyone in the art room decided to design a poster about recycling, upcycling and cutting waste in the art room following a chat about the environment.
This came about following a discussion about the amount of plastics used in the studio including disposable gloves, aprons and skin wipes, so we decided to “go green”. We all designed the poster and came up with suggestions to help the environment, which included:
Making our own re-usable plastic aprons for the art studio.
Re-using the same gloves when necessary.
Using the biodegradable hand towel instead of the skin wipes when necessary.
Re-using, upcycling and repurposing materials for art projects.
Cutting down on waste – only use small amounts and top-up when necessary.
Use the shredder and recycle bins if disposing of recyclable materials.
These are a few of our strategies but we are always coming up with waste saving ideas when they arise and at the moment we are using some re-purposed free hessian to make some textile art.
We have a few commissions for painted canvases in progress, as well as finishing off the long-term project of artworks for our friends at Riccarton Hub.
