Our Celebration of the
life of our friend Mary Wight
Mary had been
with Capability Scotland since pre 1976.
For someone
who was deaf and unable to communicate vocally, Mary had fantastic
communication skills. She was one of the first service users to use Bliss
symbols
Blis-symbols was
a system that had a large flexible vocabulary and contained logical rules for
expanding vocabulary and grammar, It was like Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Mary was part
of a group of service users to be introduced and to use Bliss away back in the
early 70’s, and she was very quick to understand it. This was the very
beginning of augmentative and alternative communication, and when new
communication systems came out Mary was still using Bliss for a while and to
some people it was far too complicated and a completely different language.
Mary was also
one of those people who would give anything a go, she loved swimming and horse
riding, she would be first to try any new activities.
She also
loved a party and loved nothing better than dressing up to go out.
She
always liked to be out with her friends usually for a pub lunch, and she loved her
holidays, below are some of the fun times she had, and a poem from her friends.
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Just like the colours of a rose symbolise,
Love. admiration, enthusiasm, friendship and joy.
that symbolised the person she was.🌹
The colours she showed us,
through her strength and her love.
Her passion for life, music, Mick and shopping,
will still shine down from above.🌹
Memories friends share of holidays and fun,
Your love of fashion, pub lunches, sparkling shoes and lippy,
are just some.💄
We loved the way you smelt,
with different perfumes that you wore.
and your perfect hair, with shades of colour,
that you liked to show.🌹
Mary your laughter and smile,
would just light up the room.
Just like the colours of a rose when in full bloom.
We miss you so much, but this is not goodbye.
Just like the colours of a rose,
you will forever light up the sky.🌹
