Rugby World Cup


First Rugby World Cup was held in 1987 tournament was hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Sixteen teams were participating in 1987. Since 1999 twenty teams have taken part.
 This year Japan is hosting Rugby World Cup. 
Before Rugby World Cup there was no global competition but there were other tournaments. One of the oldest Rugby tournaments is Six Nations Championship which started in 1883 a tournament between Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. Tournament Expended to five nations when France joined in 1910. Italy joined in 2000 which became Six Nations.

The Tournament has been hosted by multiple Nations. The 2007 competition was hosted by France, with matches also being held in Wales and Scotland.
The Scottish rugby team dates back to 1871, where they beat England in the first international rugby union match at Raeburn Place. Scotland Competed in every world cup since 1987. In 1991 Scotland finished fourth making it best result since the beginning of World Cup.

The Webb Ellis Cup is the prize presented to winners of the Rugby World Cup.
